Randall is partly right.. if a hacker really wants in they’re going to get in, but updates will give said hacker less avenues to do so so I would recommend getting the critical and important updates since those are typically bug fixes, security patches etc..

Its free and awsome. The start menu, icons, window frames, every thing looks like vista.

Its not hard to install just download the setup and install and its done, and it is completely reversable too.

I just got a new comp, and it has Linux on it, and I hate it any idea how I can get Windows instead?

You would have to have a Windows Installation Disk and the know-how to the install drivers to get all the computer components to work, or pay a competent person to do it for you.

I think your best option is to call customer service and tell them you got the wrong model (All the laptops/netbook I’ve seen have separate Linux and Windows models). You will have to pay for shipping it back, the difference in price in models (Probably the same price), and maybe a return fee (get them to waive that).

I had this problem since I built my pc a few Months ago where every 5 or less minutes the computer itself stuttered. I mean like it suffered a frame rate drop and it didn’t matter whether I was listening to music, on the net or playing games. After going through all my drivers in control panel and searching for automatic updates, I finally just assumed it was just faulty hardware and started budgeting for upgrades.

Then, last night I came across some software that said it would look for updated drivers for my pc. I installed it and it turned out to be one of those “oh, hey, you need updates, but you’ll have to pay to get ‘em”. Foolishly it told me all the updates I need so I just went and got them on the net. Now my pc is running like a dream, and so it leaves me with this question: Why couldn’t windows vista find these obviously essential updates for me? Anyone have any ideas?
Well this is what irritates me mike b. I have the genuine, over priced 32 bit version of vista. I have automatic updates set up, and yet I had to go to another software site to fix problems on my pc that vista should really have been able to sort out. They weren't obscure drivers, they were major ones like my video card!

Vista is close to Windows ME for suckiness, so far 98 or XP are the best windows OS's and even they suck a little.

did you know over 20 programs in vista report back to Microsoft? so Microsoft knows what your a-s-s is doing everytime you log on!

I want to upgrade my vista to the ultimate one but it says there you are recommended to backup your hard drive but i don’t have any free external hard drive now…. so whats the costs if i don’t backup?

First you will need to patch the uxtheme.dll file using a 3rd party tool:

Second you need to save the .msstyles file inside a folder with same name (minus the extension) inside C:/Windows/Resources/Themes

What is causing mouse and keyboard to not work after Windows Vista update?

The other night when I went to log-out/shut-down my computer, it went into a Windows automatic update (I’m running Vista) and then the computer shut off after the updates like it is supposed to. When I went to use it a few days later, the mouse and keyboard are not working, and hence, I can’t get into my computer. I have unplugged/replugged the mouse and keyboard, checked all connections, and rebooted the computer several times, and still nothing. Does anyone know what could be causing this, how to fix it, and does it have anything to do with the update?

Obviously it downloaded an update for those drivers that was no good. Yes, this is because of the update more than likely. Do you have an extra keyboard and mouse that you can connect to this computer to check if it's them or the update? I would try that first cause you can't get into your computer without them. Plug them in and then turn on the computer. It should recognize the new hardware and allow you to use them. Then do a system restore and go back to before these updates were installed. Then what you need to do is configure your updates to NOT install them automatically. That way you can chose what to install and what not to install. I highly recommend learning what updates go to what component.
If the new mouse and keyboard are not recognized, then there is a reason and I would be concerned that perhaps the USBs are bad and you may want to play around with different ones. Like–my computer has 4 USB ports in the back and 2 on the front. So, I can use my keyboard, mouse, wireless adaptor, camera–etc in any of them. Just keep changing them until the computer recognizes one. You may have to reboot each time you change the connection though. I would try the front ports first since they are easier to get to——-Not sure what computer you are using though—some computers have the USB right in plain site and some are hidden under a slide drawer. I LOVE Linux and I have installed Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron on my Dell Inspiron 1420 (came with Windows Vista Home Premium). The Dell Ubuntu version has some extra tweaks, and I was wondering if I would get those if I reinstalled Ubuntu with a Dell Inspiron 1420n Ubuntu Reinstall DIsc. Is this possible?
