I left my computer for literally 15 minutes and when I came back it was rebooting to install updates and I had lost information on open files that were unsaved :-( . How can I stop this in future? It's such an idiotic setting that doesn't wait for confirmation - it just counts down assuming you can see it to delay it.

The Answer by rlh242424 :

There is a setting for your automatic update that allows windows to download and install on its own. You can change that so it will only download the updates and you can choose when to install them. That way you will be at the computer at control what is open.

  • I have decided to purchase the Vista Home Premium Upgrade for my computer..
    My questions are as follows…
Is there an option on the upgrade to completely reboot my computer? Right now, my computer is sort of 'virused-up' and shuts off from time to time.. I am aware I could just reboot XP then upgrade to Vista, but it would just save me the hassle if I can just do it from Vista..
Also, if I did reboot, is there a way to save a few programs? I got Office 2007 from work, I am pretty sure it was set with like only one use. So if I rebooted my computer, I would hate it to lose 2007. Same goes for CS2. I got that from a friend. Is there a way to like check certain programs that I wouldn't want to be deleted? That would be pretty nifty to have a checklist. Because I basically want everything removed from my computer but Office and Photoshop.
My computer can handle Vista, I already checked. It will do just fine.
Please help out.. Maybe also give me your oppinions on vista!

The Answer by Wyatt Earp :

When you install the upgrade it will give you an option of partioning the harddrive. If you select partition then Vista will install itself in an area of the harddrive that won't erase XP and the programs. Then you can easily transfer your programs over.

    Good Luck

I downloaded vista themes from deviantart and they won't install. The file is there but won't install.
