There's a good computer at Circuit City, but Best Buy offers free Windows Vista upgrades, so should I get one there instead?
if upgrade is on final release then go for it

Dell is gonna have it free with every system over $500
well it depends whether or not ur a big fan of computers
if not there is not point because you couldn't care much
however if you were and you wanted the best quality it probably is a good idea to get it for some of its features, like better security, more options etc but i would wait maybe a year or two so they can remove the bugs and improve it

I downloaded a beta copy of Vista, but I'm wondering for tweaking purposes, how do you defeat the Windows Vista expiration timer? I've seen it done on XP, so it's not impossible…
I'm sorry, what's wrong with me? June 1, 2007, not 2006….
Where it is not impossible to "reset" the timer it is illegal, you were given a Beta copy of Vista for testing purposes and the testing period is over. If you are listed as a Microsoft Tester or was given the Beta version from a Microsoft certified "agent" you may be able to request an extension, otherwise the testing period is over and you'll need to either get the latest version, wait for the retail version and purchase it, or keep trying to get an illegal version of the OS.
I have been able to extend the trial period for upto 6 months by doing a complete (and I do mean complete, including erasing all traces from the registry, temp, and system folders) and doing a re-install on a different partition of an existing hard drive that has the date/time settings tweeked to not advance. However, after you use the operating for more than a day, or as soon as you go online with it, it starts the timer no matter what you do, and after 6 months it doesn't work anymore.
So unless you have a bunch of hard drives sitting around with nothing on them and are willing to do a complete unistall/format/re-install every 3 or 4 months, just wait.
